GEORGE WALTON CABINET

A satin birch side cabinet decorated with chevron banding, the surmount with opposing
mirrored doors centered by two drawers, above a rectangular top and an arrangement of four
short over two long drawers, each with cut out handles and beaten silvered backplates, the
whole raised on bracket feet. This cabinet shows characteristics of furniture produced at Elm Bank, York by Walton in 1898 for Sidney Leetham. It is inlaid with bold geometric chevron banding, which had been revived and popularised by George Jack at Morris & Co., however the enlargment of this decoration at
Elm Bank was more expansive.
