Thursday, December 20, 2007

Vietnam and Mexico have signed a memorandum of understanding this week to expand acupuncture cooperation and research in Mexico.

President of the Vietnam Acupuncture Association (VAA), Prof. Nguyen Tai Thu, made the agreement with the director of the Autonomous University of Zacatecas, Alfredo Femat Banuelo.

VAA will work as a consultant for the Zacatecas university to host international conferences and run acupuncture training courses.

The two sides agreed to jointly establish a drug detoxification center in Zacatecas, using Thu's treatment methods.

The professor also agreed to help run M.A. level acupuncture training programs in universities in northern Nuevo Leon and central Zacatecas.

With the assistance and direct involvement of doctors from Vietnam's Central Acupuncture Hospital, Mexico has opened four acupuncture centers, including one in Zacatecas University.

The first acupuncture center, named after Vietnam's late President Ho Chi Minh, was set up in 2000 in Mexico's northern city of Monterrey.
